We look down at our phone to examine that picture or ‘check in’ and don’t look at our friend’s face as they notice something stunningly beautiful about where we are. We are so consumed with the perception by others of where we go, what we do, and what we own, that a lot of life’s true meaning and origins of contentment and peace get lost. Marketing and social media has encouraged us more than ever to own items because of the status they bring. Pictures and observation by others is more than it has ever been. What if… we did things just for ourselves? What if… we went to that beautiful place and instead of looking at our phones to see who’s liking what we’re posting, we just… didn’t? What if… we wore what we loved, what made us feel comfortable, and brought us joy rather than what was marketed as being ‘in’. Trends are impossible to keep up with at this point and that is intentional.
